Wednesday we stayed in mostly, except I took my
first walk on my own, along the Lungotevere just south of our house.

Then we had dinner (it was raining and the
cobbles slippery, so I wanted to stay closer to home) at the little place at
the bottom of the street, an area called Piazza della Rovere and a restaurant
called Divin Peccata (Divine Sin).

Before going in for dinner, Brad captured
the rainbow over San Giovanni church just across the river.
Had my first Coda alla Vaccinara—a Roman
classic, pasta in oxtail sauce. Wonderful!
We walked home up the Via di Sant’Onofrio
steps, and the sky between the vine-covered buildings was so atmospheric … Buona
notte!
The pictures in this post are fantastic. What a gorgeous neighborhood. I am so happy to hear you are walking - even if it is limited for the time being. It must be so frustrating to spend your first month in Rome unable to set out on long walks!
ReplyDeleteHi there! So nice to hear from you. We are having fun but still some adjustment and we are starting to miss everyone. The knee has been a big part of the challenge. The word for crutches in Italian is le stampelle (pronounced almost like stomp pele). So appropriate. The sound I make going around is "stomp ... stomp ... stomp"! And they are so awkward--I have to be careful about where I put the crutches (all those cobblestones--slippery when wet) and avoid people and uneven surfaces. It's not only tiring but you really can't see the sights unless you stop. ... anyway I jumped the gun tonight and walked on my leg to dinner (using the crutches as protection). It changed everything and felt so great (although I was tired afterwards). TMI-another post perhaps. Hope things are good back home and with you and Oliver! B
